8 DJs Share Their Best Advice For Destination Festivals

The logistics of attending a festival can be… “stressful.” what to wear? Where did it crash? What do you pack? Now add a few thousand miles between home and ground zero and things can get hectic. One might feel stranded, or dare we say “shipwrecked”.

But that chaos is also part of the fun, as destination festivals can have some of life’s most memorable experiences, especially the ever-growing Holy Ship that’s always popping up! crusher. From December 13-17, one of the most sought-after bass parties on the planet will return to the shores of Mexico’s Yucatan for a four-day musical frenzy on the Riviera Maya. Notable juggers like Dom Dolla, Louis The Child, Jai Wolf and Lane 8 plus dozens of great artists will be ready to spin for the thousands of electro music pilgrims.

Next-level festival lovers who are on a long trip need not worry about travel stress: UPROXX has you covered with some Holy Ship! Giant Wrecked DJs Offer Their Best Destination Festival Travel Tips.

In order to get the most out of your trip, always create a small itinerary so you can maximize all of your options. The most important staple for me is turmeric pills. Just because I’m going on a destination trip, I like to eat, and sometimes the food just doesn’t sit right with your stomach. Finally, the most important travel tip, make sure you are always open to experiences and willing to try new things.

My advice for the festival is; Hydrate, hydrate, hydrate! Drink more water than you think because you’ll need it from all the dancing! Pickle juice and liquid infusion packs are lifesavers when it comes to staying hydrated for longer, so don’t forget to pack some.

Also, don’t forget your earplugs. Whether your head is in the speakers or you’re taking a disco nap, earplugs are a must at any festival.

Having done Holy Shipwreck so many unreliable times (even when on a cruise ship) I think the best advice I can give is to just walk around. It’s a great atmosphere and you’ll always find something interesting, often a drink on hand. You’ll go from group to group, meet up with friends, and find some activity to do along the way.

Oh, and make sure you plan ahead for room service at the end of the night – this is a must.

When it comes to preparing for a festival (and traveling in general), the main thing for me is to be prepared for anything so you can think less about logistics and more about having fun and feeling as healthy and comfortable as possible! It mostly means thinking about the future so that you are not dependent on anything and can go with the flow with less time spent waiting around or running “errands”.

For me personally, this often involves wearing things that can be easily adapted to multiple situations, snacks on hand, organized transport details/screenshot if you’re at a no-service destination, swimwear if there’s a place to swim, even, even, bags. Coffee, items organized for ease of use and so on.

The more you can plan ahead to make things easier on yourself, the more smoothly and efficiently you can do what you can do and feel free and energetic. This can be very useful when you are out and about, when it may take more than expected such as “visiting the store” or finding an ATM!

Always check the weather before you travel and pack accordingly also keeping in mind that if you are traveling to a tropical destination, the weather can be unpredictable. Some of the essential items that you must have for a destination festival would be; Bug spray, a reusable water bottle (with filter), and a small medicine bag that contains allergy, stomach relief, pain relief, and motion sickness medication.

Also, extra toiletries like hand wipes, lip balm, and disposable toothbrushes are always a great way to get more.

Don’t overpack. You probably won’t wear or use half of the things you bring. Take it from us, we are the worst overpackers; Maybe one day we will listen to ourselves.

When traveling to a destination festival, be sure to start hydrating before you get on the plane. Drink more water than you think you need in general! On that note – have a good breakfast before a long day of groups, and on the way home, pay for the upgraded seat if you can, it’s worth it.

Never forget to pack your swimwear. You never know what hour of the day/night you will find yourself either in the ocean or in a warm hot tub. Bonus points if you can get a matching swimsuit with your best friend because of the sentiment.
