CEBU CITY – For the first time in nearly four decades, a prominent destination in this city will be closed to the public for renovation from October 21.
Tops Lookout, which is located in an elevated part of Cebu City, will be transformed into a “worldwide tourist destination,” according to its management.
“Despite its temporary closure, we are maintaining and enhancing what it has always been as we build new things to make the summits even better,” read a statement released on October 1 by the owners.
The mountain park, known in Cebu simply as “The Peaks”, will reopen as a joint venture between Fifth Avenue Property Development Corp. and EMRO Holdings Inc.
Management has not yet disclosed the cost of the renewal.
Summit management assured guests that the entrance fee would remain at P100 even after the redevelopment.
Tops is the favorite destination for all Cebuano lovers who want to relax and dine.
It is famous for its panoramic view of the cities of Cebu, Mandawi, Talisay and Lapu Lapu.
“Despite its temporary closure, we are maintaining and strengthening what it has always been, while building new things to make the peaks even better,” the administration said.
On October 21, the administration will hold a concert to mark the park’s closure. It will feature Cebu artists and disc jockeys as a tribute to the famous theme park.
The peaks are located in one of Cebu’s highest peaks, 12 kilometers from the city proper or less than 30 minutes drive.
The mountain park, which is about 2,000 meters above sea level, was opened to the public in 1985.
