Amboy News | Clippers boy basketball competes in Eastland Holiday Tournament


Lanark – Pecatonica fired their way to a 90-54 win over Amboy in the Eastland Holiday Championship on December 27 in Lanark.

The game was tight after the first quarter, with Amboy down by only five (18-13). But Pecatonica exploded on 25 points in the second quarter to open up a 43-28 halftime lead. The Indians outdid themselves in the third period by putting 28 points on the board to take a commanding 71-43 lead into the fourth frame.

Eddie Jones hit four three-pointers and added four more traditional hoops as the Clippers raced to 20 points. Garrett Birtle was next with nine figures, while Troy Anderson added seven.

Amboy could not maintain a fast start as Galena rallied for a 73-30 decision over the Clippers.

The Clippers narrowed to a 19-5 lead in the first quarter, but Galena caught fire in the second half and held off Amboy, 22-5, to seize a 27-24 halftime advantage. Then in the third frame, the Clippers shut down and the Pirates rallied to 29 points to go up 56-24 with a quarter to play.

Jones and Anderson led the Amboy offense with 12 and 6 points, respectively.

Forreston got the best of the Clippers, 54-45, on December 28.

It was another good start for Amboy going 13-8 with eight minutes in the books. Forston put together a strong second quarter and held off the Clippers at the half, 28-26, then the Cardinals slowly pulled away over the final two frames.

Anderson led the Clippers with 13 points, followed by Wes Wilson with 12 points and Jones with eight points. Wilson connected with three shots from behind the three-point arc.
