London – On December 28, a Genshin Impact open-world RPG-themed flight flew from Shanghai to Sanya. The flight was operated by Shanghai-based Chinese airline Juneyao Air.
On the promotional trip, there was a joint live event in collaboration with Sanya Tourism Promotion Board (STPB), Trip.com and Genshin Impact.
This was part of a campaign by STPB to attract Generation Z (Gen Z) tourists, following its recent effort to attract young tourists by hosting the GenZ Top Model Contest.

In addition to bringing live broadcasts into the sky, the themed flight also featured powerful Genshin Impact and Sanya game elements as part of the aircraft’s decor, adding a touch of liveliness to the flight.
Genshin Impact is an action role-playing game developed and published by miHoYo. The game takes place in a cartoon-based open world called Teyvat, where characters can roam freely.

It saw 23 million downloads on mobile platforms within a week after its first launch in 2020, and has gained a huge number of fans, especially among the Generation Z demographic worldwide.
For Sanya, Genshin Impact is an ideal option to work with as the city upgrades its tourism resources to attract more interest from young tourists and international visitors.
In 2021, STPB has taken a similar approach to attract younger travelers in collaboration with Game for Peace (Chinese version of PUBG Mobile).
Now that inbound tourism is expected to pick up, STPB plans to launch a series of initiatives to present Sanya as an international destination for young travelers around the world.
About Sanya
Boasting year-round warm weather, stunning landscapes, and diverse experiences, Sanya is the perfect backdrop for work, travel, and play.
Recently, STPB has focused on finding new tourism opportunities and hotspots to attract different types of travelers to Sanya, especially young travelers.
With surfing, camping, scuba diving and other trendy sports becoming increasingly popular among young people, an outdoor lifestyle is becoming increasingly associated with Sanya, as the city continues to cater to a younger population.
The tourist destinations represented by Sanya have recently experienced rapid growth. According to data from Trip.com’s FlightAI platform, tourists from various destinations flocked to Sanya from December 20 to December 27.
Sanya Phoenix Airport ranks fifth in China in terms of civil aviation passenger traffic, while the annual recovery rate in passenger traffic ranks fourth among all airports in China.
As China eases its restrictions on tourist arrivals in 2023, STPB will focus on highlighting new attractions in the tourism destination and prepare an exciting array of events to attract new international visitors, young global travelers, as well as entice previously visited travelers to return.
