It is normal to get away with it once you lose. Unfortunately for Dave Roberts, going home was not an option after the NLDS loss to the Padres as his family lives in San Diego.
The Padres continued to be competitive in the post-season and instead of listening to all the Padres fans in the area, Roberts decided it would be best for him and his family to take a nice vacation. Roberts enjoyed his early slump and left not just the city, but the country as a whole.
While the Dodgers have plenty of time to improve on their postseason mistakes, now is the time to recharge and prepare for another long season ahead. (via Baseball Sports Show).
“Yeah, it definitely ended sooner than I expected or hoped. At the moment, we’re done losing to the Padres. I’m in San Diego, that’s where I live, and we lost at Petco, knowing the Padres will keep going, There’s a town that’s a San Diego Padre fan, so I’m like, ‘Honey, we gotta get out of town. And when I say out of town, we have to go to the other side of the pond.”
It’s hard to think of a better place to visit after this low point in the season than in Europe.
“What we did was we got two tickets and we went to London. Guys, it was so much fun. It was my first time in London. And we took a show. I think it was called Come From Away. It was a 9/11 show, so that was cool.” He met my favorite Philly, all-time favorite, Chase Utley and his wife Jane, who were there. Yeah, they live in London now. So we had dinner with them. Then we did some shopping. I went to Oxford for the day, so that was cool.”
While Roberts is taking some time off the Dodgers front office, he’s in full swing and ready to make some noise this season. The disappointing end of the season is a wake-up call that nothing is safe in MLB.
With the return of some key pitchers and filling some gaps in the lineup, the Dodgers will go straight back into championship contenders.
