Fargo—Piles of old or unwanted holiday lights may be dropped off for free for disposal now through January 31st.
Fargo residents can turn off the string lights at the Household Hazardous Waste Facility at 606 43rd St. N., between the hours of 9 a.m. and 5 p.m., Monday through Friday, from now until the end of January.
The Holiday Lights Recycling Program accepts new style and vintage style LED lights, but does not accept rope style lights.
The lights will be disposed of in the most environmentally friendly manner possible, according to a statement from the City of Fargo’s Department of Solid Waste.
Cardboard and other household waste from holiday shopping may be dropped off for free at the Residential Transportation Station, located in Fargo Landfill at 4501 Seventh Ave. N.
The moving station will accept cartons, non-Freonic appliances, and old furniture, among other things, according to the city. Commercial waste and construction materials will not be accepted as part of the program.
Proof of residence is required to use the service.
