First kitesurfing destination in Qatar Fuwairit Kite Beach Resort opens

With less than 40 days before the World Cup, another attraction has officially opened on Qatar’s northern coast – Fuerth Kite Beach Resort (FKB), the country’s first kitesurfing destination.

Yesterday, the ribbon cutting was held with the participation of His Excellency the Minister of Environment and Climate Change, Sheikh Dr. Faleh bin Nasser bin Ahmed bin Ali Al Thani. Qatar Airways Group Chief Executive Officer and Chairman of Qatar Tourism Board, His Excellency Akbar Al Baker, along with other officials.

Al Baker said: “At Qatar Airways, we pride ourselves on bringing the world and communities together through travel of course but also through sport, this resort allows us to continue this mission and tradition where we have another wonderful and beautiful reason to invite and take guests to our shores.”

He also emphasized that the resort is committed to preserving the ecosystem that surrounds it.

“Qatar is famous for being a nesting ground for many hawksbill turtles, and Fuwairit Kite Beach Resort will be dedicated to preserving this biodiversity allowing these wonderful marine creatures to continue to live in their natural environment.” It should be noted that the habitat of the hawksbill sea turtle is located near the resort.

During the resort’s opening yesterday, Al Baker with His Excellency Dr. Al Thani and several guests and officials released a hawksbill sea turtle. Likewise, World Cup visitors will have the opportunity to release hawksbill sea turtles when they visit the resort.

Al Baker explained that the resort is the only kitesurfing resort of its kind in the Arabian Peninsula and is “one of the best and most advanced kitesurfing destinations anywhere in the world”.

Al Baker explained to reporters that FKB is among the best kitesurfing destination in the world with favorable wind conditions for the sport for more than nine months of the year compared to the usual three to five months.

Furthermore, Qatar Airways is also the main partner and official flyer of the Global Kite Sports Association (GKA) World Kite Tour taking place at the FKB in 2023 and 2024.

Peninsula I spoke to two athletes who are considered to be among the best windsurfing athletes in the world – Bruna Kagia from Brazil and Valentin Rodriguez from Colombia. Both agreed that the resort is the perfect place for kitesurfing because of the crystal clear, flat, shallow waters.

“The hotel is first class for a kitesurfing location – we don’t find anywhere like this,” Kagia said. In the meantime, Rodriguez said, “It’s a great place, it’s so cool, and it’s beautiful.” The two players will compete on the GKA Kite World Tour in 2023 and 2024.

Located an hour’s drive from Doha, FKB features 50 rooms. Apart from windsurfing, it offers a variety of adventurous activities such as kayaking, parasailing, water skiing, kayaking, snorkeling, and scuba diving, among others.
