Australians now have more connections to the popular long-haul destination of Canada, with the launch of twice-weekly commercial Fiji Airways direct flights from Fiji to Vancouver.
The inaugural flight from Nadi International Airport was seen off on Friday 25 November, marking the start of Fiji Airways’ newest direct international service. Service arrived in Vancouver after 1pm local time on November 25th (after 8am on November 26th AEDT).
From now on, Fiji Airways will fly direct to and from Vancouver every Monday and Friday. To connect to Fiji from Australia, Fiji Airways currently operates two daily flights from Sydney, and daily flights from Melbourne and Brisbane to Nadi, Fiji. The national airline also operates twice weekly flights from Adelaide to Nadi.
Fiji Airways General Manager and CEO Andre Viljoen is encouraging Australians to take advantage of the new twice-a-week flights to Canada to rest in Fiji before flying on to their destination.
“Our five-star partners and our multi-award-winning onboard experiences, including meals, amenities and staff service, offer the best value for money,” said Viljoen.
“With the holiday season fast approaching, the timing for our new course couldn’t be better.
“We can now connect Australians to Canada for the holiday season, invite them to warm up in tropical Fiji with a relaxing holiday before returning to Australia in rest and relaxation.
“In the run-up to the launch of the flights, more and more Australians have shown interest in the new service, which indicates there is demand from which Fiji can benefit.
“As we continue to expand our network and launch new itineraries, we are creating more and more itineraries for Australians to popular travel destinations, further cementing Fiji as a convenient contact or stopover destination further afield.”
The new service with Fiji Airway’s extensive Airbus fleet provides more capacity for freight, enabling increased trade between Fiji and Canada, as well as other Pacific Island nations.
Goods that used to take up to a week to reach Canada, or Fiji from Canada, can now be transported overnight, opening up new possibilities for agricultural and commodity exports.
