Wellington singled out Rough Guides’ list of the 23 best countries to visit, coming in at number 22.
Another major destination on the list was Naples, Italy. Kanazawa in Japan; and Berlin in Germany.
New Zealand was recently named the top travel destination people want to visit in a Rough Guides reader travel survey.
The city was named the best for ‘Culture, Cuisine and the 2023 FIFA Women’s World Cup’.
“Wellington is at the top of the tree when it comes to cafe culture, nightlife and the arts, not least during the summer when a host of fringe festivals break out,” Rough Guides writes.
Travel guide named Wellington “New Zealand’s culinary capital” with a “cracking craft beer scene and famous regional wines”.
This comes after Auckland was named last month as one of the top global destinations to travel in 2023 by the prestigious British travel magazine Condé Nast Traveler.
In October, Time Out named Kingsland one of the world’s coolest suburbs, while in September, Condé Nast Traveler hailed Auckland restaurant Sri Penang as one of the best restaurants in the world.
