The regular season is over, and that can only mean one thing: It’s bowl time. The Gamecocks have been praised after their collegiate blowout against both Tennessee and Clemson, and bowl games have taken notice.
The final destinations for the tournament will be revealed on Sunday, December 4, so let’s take a look at the three most likely stops for South Carolina this year:
Cheese It Citrus Bowl
South Carolina’s Citrus Bowl hopes still lingered, but LSU’s upset loss at the hands of Texas A&M may have hurt the Gamecocks’ chances.
The Citrus Bowl has its pick for the best SEC team not to make it to the “New Year ‘6” bowl game, so LSU’s performance in the upcoming SEC Championship Game may determine whether or not the Gamecocks make it to Orlando.
The Citrus Bowl takes place January 2nd, 2023 at 1:00 PM.
Possible match: South Carolina vs. Purdue
TaxSlayer Crocodile Bowl
This seems like the most likely situation at the current stage. Historically, South Carolina is familiar with the Gator Bowl, having played in the game on four separate occasions (1946, 1980, 1984, and 1987), losing each time.
The Gator Bowl will happen December 30 at 3:30 PM at TIAA Bank Square in Jacksonville. Multiple outlets reported that the Gator Bowl would choose South Carolina, given the chance.
Likely match: South Carolina vs. Notre Dame
ReliaQuest Bowl
The ReliaQuest Bowl, formerly the Outback Bowl, is also available to the Gamecocks. If the Carolina Gator Bowl passes, the ReliaQuest committee will benefit.
South Carolina is used to the Tampa bowl scene and will take on a Big Ten team if that is the destination. The ReliaQuest Bowl kicks off at noon on January 2, 2023.
Likely match: South Carolina vs. Minnesota
