Rangers have offered to refund fans traveling to Amsterdam ahead of Wednesday’s clash with Ajax after the club’s official travel partner confirmed a belated change in plan.
A number of Ibrox fans were expecting to fly directly from Glasgow to Amsterdam for the Champions League match after booking with Corporate Travel Management, Glasgow FC’s official travel partner.
However, fans were outraged after receiving an itinerary from the travel company on Tuesday morning – which revealed they would be landing in Brussels instead.
Light blues fans now face a two-hour flight to Ajax’s Johan Cruyff stadium, rather than the planned 15-minute flight from Schiphol Airport.
Rangers confirmed that any fans who booked through CTM will receive refunds and discounts, while any fan who decides not to travel will receive a full refund.
An email from Rangers to affected fans read: “We are aware of ongoing changes to your travel plans ahead of the UEFA Champions League Round 1 match against Ajax Amsterdam in Amsterdam.
“This is out of our club’s control as we rely on our own travel supplier to facilitate these arrangements and are very disappointed with the ongoing issues.
“Rangers Football Club would like to thank you for your loyal support and support for this match as well as your patience during this frustrating time.
“We share your frustration with adjustments to travel itineraries, particularly at such late notice. We consider this unacceptable and are conducting a full review of the suppliers’ arrangement with CTM.
“We apologize for this situation and will provide a full refund to fans who choose not to travel tomorrow. As a goodwill gesture, we will refund £300 to those who proceed to travel to Amsterdam.
“We wish all Rangers fans traveling to the Netherlands a safe journey – and make sure the club shares your concerns.”
