By India Today Web DeskFormer Indian cricketer Suresh Raina has shielded the team led by Rohit Sharma after their T20 World Cup semi-final exit and also suggested that the team deserved a break and family time after the heartbreaking loss.
India suffered a humiliating 10-wicket defeat at the hands of England at the Adelaide Oval on Thursday, November 10.
Raina praised the Indian team for doing everything they had and added that he hopes the team will be back soon.
“A painful loss for the team but proud of the boys, and Bharat’s army, because they gave it their all! I’m sure we’ll bounce back soon, but first, a break or vacation and time with the family,” Raina tweeted.
The fight fought by Virat Kohli and Hardik Pandya for half a century brought India to 168/8 after putting them at bat. India opener KL Rahul lost early and the other opener, Rohit Sharma, failed to shoot in an exaggerated Powerplay. India managed to reach 38/1 after six overtakes. Rohit and Virat Kohli tried to rebuild the roles, but failed to get India out of the turbulent waters. India netted 15 times to put 100 points on board before Pandya’s late strike gave the bowlers something to defend.
In response, India’s bowlers were outdone by England players Gus Butler and Alex Hales. The duo took England to 63 unbeaten runs at the end of the powerplay. Butler and Helles convincingly secured the T20 World Cup final for England against Pakistan with an additional four.
Gautam Gambhir, who opened India’s opener, also boosted the Indian team’s morale. He took to Twitter: “You only expect those who can give birth! Chin boys.”
Yuvraj Singh, former India national team player said: “Yes, we want our team to win every time they step onto the pitch, but we have to realize that there will be days that don’t go your way! Alone during the tournament. It’s time to think about how we can improve and come back stronger! .”
