Tiafoe, Alcaraz meet for second final spot | US Open updates

New York – Latest US Open (all times local):

Francis Tiafoe and Carlos Alcaraz start the match that will determine the second finalist for the US Open men’s tournament.

Tiafoe is trying to become the first American man to play for the title in New York since Andy Roddick in 2006. He is in his first semi-final.

So is the number 3 seed Alcaraz who reached the semifinals by defeating Jannik Sinner in the match that ended at 2:50 am, the last-ever final match of the US Open.

The winner will play No. 5 seed Casper Rudd on Sunday.

Casper Rudd moved into the Grand Slam final for the second time this year by defeating Karen Khachanov 7-6 (5), 6-2, 5-7, 6-2.

The No. 5 from Norway will play either third seed Carlos Alcaraz or 22nd seed Francis Tiafoe on Sunday in the final.

Rudd also kept his hopes alive of moving to #1 in the rankings on Monday.

Rudd lost to Rafael Nadal at the French Open for the first time he played for a major title.

Karen Khachanov pulled off the fourth set in the US Open men’s semi-final against Casper Rudd.

Khachanov broke Rudd in the final to win the third set 7-5.

Roode, the fifth seed, won the first two sets 7-6 (5), 6-2.

Khachanov, seeded 27, had won five-set matches in the previous two rounds to reach his first semi-final.

New partner, same destination for Katie McNally.

McNally earned a second straight trip to the women’s doubles final by teaming with fellow American Taylor Townsend for a 1-6, 6-3, 6-3 win over the 12-seeded team of Caroline Dolehide and Storm Sanders.

McNally lost in the final last year to Coco Gauff, who had recently reached number one in the women’s doubles classification. But she and partner Jessica Pegola, seeded No. 2, were knocked out in the first round.

20-year-old McNally went on to pair up in New York with Townsend, who returned to the tour this year after having a baby in March 2021.

The duo lost the first set in 26 minutes and lost 2-0 in the second set before stepping up their rally.

McNally and Townsend play the team of number three seed Barbora Krezhikova and Katerina Siniakova in Sunday’s final.

Casper Rudd is a group away from the US Open final after easily winning the second set against Karen Khachanov.

The No. 5 Norwegian won 6-2 in 33 minutes. The first set went into the tiebreak, and Roode won 7-5 in 58 minutes.

He is trying to reach his second Grand Final this year, having lost to Rafael Nadal at the French Open.

Casper Rudd won a 55-shot crowd to conclude the tiebreak and take the first set of his semi-final match against Karen Khachanov.

The protracted exchange of shots ended when Rudd hit a backhand on the line that Khachanov curled into the net, giving the Norwegian a 7-5 tiebreak.

Fifth seed Rudd is trying to reach his second final this year. Khachanov, ranked No. 27, is unprecedented.

The No. 5 seed from Norway lost to Rafael Nadal in the French Open final. He has a chance to reach number one in the world rankings next week.

Khachanov, seeded 27, secured his first place in a major semi-final with consecutive wins from five sets, including a win over Wimbledon finalist Nick Kyrgios in his previous match.

The winner will face third seed Carlos Alcaraz or 22nd seed Francis Tiafoe.

Rajiv Ram and Joe Salisbury became the second team in the Professional Era to repeat the US Open men’s doubles title by defeating Wesley Kohlhoff and Neil Skopsky 7-6 (4), 7-5.

The ranked team joined Hall of Fame duo Todd Woodbridge and Mark Woodforde in 1995 and ’96 as a team that has been back-to-back in New York since 1968.

Salisbury ensured that he would remain the number one player in the doubles rankings with his 17th consecutive victory at the US Open, which combined men’s doubles and mixed doubles.

Koulhoff and Skopsky, seeded No. 2, were playing at the US Open for the first time as a team.

The highlight of the day’s men’s singles semi-finals at the US Open began on Arthur Ashe Stadium with the men’s doubles final.

The top-seeded team of Rajiv Ram and Joe Salisbury were chasing a second consecutive US Open title in that match against the number two seed Wesley Koulhoff and Neil Skopsky.

This will be followed by the first semi-final between No. 5 Casper Rudd and No. 27 Karen Kkachanov. Rudd was trying to reach his second Grand Final, having lost to Rafael Nadal at this year’s French Open. The other three finalists reached this level for the first time.
