The trailer arrived for after the sunthe fictional debut of a Scottish writer/director (and 25 new former faces of the film) Charlotte Wells.. The film tells of the relationship between a passionate father and his pre-teen daughter, specifically through the lens of a formative vacation they take to a resort in Turkey. After this year’s critically acclaimed Critics Week premiere, after the sun It was selected for more festival programming at Telluride, TIFF and will now screen at the 60th New York Film Festival.
The official synopsis of the film reads:
At a lackluster vacation resort, 11-year-old Sophie cherishes her rare time with her loving and idealistic father Callum (Paul Mescal). As the world of adolescence creeps into the horizon, Callum struggles behind her eyes under the weight of life outside of parenthood. Twenty years later, Sophie’s tender memories of their last vacation become a powerful and heart-warming picture of their relationship, as she tries to reconcile the father she knew with the man she didn’t.
A24 will release the movie theatrically on October 21.
